At this point we are pretty well aware that the talent trees are flushed out about where the developers want them for the time being and they're working more on the numbers game now, but one very large concern for anyone that wants to play Destruction is Dispel protection.
As of right now, we have many things that are easily stripped away instantly as a Destruction Warlock which are either vital to our survival, or our general ability to put out damage in a PvP situation. At present we have 0 dispel resistance, in the meanwhile Mages for instance are able to pickup 30% in tier 1 arcane for all of their spells at the minor cost of two talent points. We're very much in a similar boat as Mages who rely on their Frost Nova to get off huge Shatter combos. We rely on keeping Immolate on a target to Conflagrate it for extra burst along with our many vital procs such as: Backlash, Nether Protection, Backdraft and Molten Core. Not to speak of the additional (yet minor) survivability increase with Aftermath. All of these things are Dispellable, and rightfully so. But, why should we not receive similar treatment as other classes who rely heavily on similar talents/abilities and get dispel protection?
For the most part, it is important to make it instant for PVP but would also help PVE DPS if Warlocks decided to go this path. We get tot know that Hunters have similar line of sight complaints but we believe this is hurting destruction a lot more then our Hunter friends.
We're talking a lot about warlocks in PvP right now. Instant-cast spells may or may not be one of the changes we'll make. Ultimately, changing Chaos Bolt and Haunt to instant just makes them different spells. We would have to nerf them significantly to make them instant, which would have PvE ramifications. Warlocks do have a fair number of spells they can cast while moving.
Now Unending Breath is not a magic effect any longer, therefore removing one of our "cover" buffs to protect some of these things. We know Blizzard has stated they are trying to make all talent trees relatively viable in every situation, yet this has continuously been overlooked. This is in no way our most pressing issue as far as PvP viability goes, but it's most certainly a pretty huge one for anyone trying to play Destruction. Please consider adding a Dispel Resistance to an early tier Destruction talent such as either Aftermath or even Improved Immolate before the patch goes live. I'm sure it's not that difficult to do. It's just overlooked or shrugged off. But please, throw us a bone here.
As a matter of fact, Blizzard just went through the talent trees and double checked. Every class gets Dispel protection for all spells at tier 1 or 2 talents with the exception of: Shamans, (tier 3) Rogues, (tier 4) and Hunters (tier 4). Every other class has a dispel resistance for all spells. In fact, the only other class besides warlocks that doesn't have a dispel resist talent for their particular spell/poison/sting/etc mechanic are warriors, which don't have anything to be dispelled in the first place really. Why can Warlocks not get similar treatment? I can understand for Affliction spells, that's fine. But our Destruction spells are literally the only thing in the game that does not have Dispel protection if you choose to put points into it. That's pretty disheartening to say the least.
Looking back over our Destruction tree compared to those trees we also feel Improved Searing Pain being renamed and given this effect could be a good choice as well as the talents mentioned earlier, though we'd like to see it buffed in other ways.
