On today's forum, we can find a good news that Blizzard have another new game! Blizzard Entertainment got yet another game in early development. Continue to Starcraft II, Diablo III, New World of Warcraft expansion and Next-Gen MMO, this is the fifth game.
The first time a new IP was hinted was as far back as 2006, when Paul Sams said the following to Gamespot:
Blizzard Quote:
Paul Sams: "I wouldn't be surprised to see a new franchise from us at some time in the future; there's certainly a desire to do so."
Two years later, on August 2008, Paul Sams mentioned the Next-Gen MMO was in production, but he also mentioned interest in a new IP. That's twice he mentions a new IP—two years apart. In that case, this new game that surfaced last week could fit the bill of a new IP. Or it is a new WoW Expansion. This is mere "rumor / conjecture" at this point. Blizzard has made no official announcements. However, I remind you that it was Paul Sams who first talked about three unannounced games a few years ago and lo and behold—Starcraft II and Diablo III were announced later, plus the Next-Gen MMO has been confirmed—although its title remains secret. If Paul Sams says a new IP is something they would like to explore—hear the Man.
Blizzard Quote:
Paul Sams: What I will say, though, is that the idea of a new franchise is very intriguing to employees of the company. Are we ever going to release a new one? I would absolutely say we will at some point. I just don't know when that day will be quite yet.
Blizzard is actively looking for programmers for this fifth mysterious game and it is not listed under the Next-Gen MMO category. It is under the category titled Unannounced Project .... What little we know about this brand-new game is that —it is run on the World of Warcraft engine for the time being, and doesn't use SDL. The engineering Lead Slouken would want to see your resume if you meet the requirements to join the team behind this fifth game:
