Hellfire Peninsula is a dry, barren wasteland rendered lifeless by the dark practices of orc Warlocks. It is here that the Dark Portal stands, cementing the peninsula's place in history as the site of many pitched battles between the Alliance and Horde. The nefarious Burning Legion has gathered here also, using the area as a staging ground for its apocalyptic crusade.
In Hellfire Peninsula, Thrallmar is the main Horde outpost and one you will get to know well as you start running around. It was founded and now led by Nazgrel, commander of Thrall's security, as an opportunity to gain resources and to have a decent control over what's going on in this demon-infested area. The residents of the town form a faction of its own, Thrallmar, which is raised by performing quests for them.
The most efficient way to gain reputation is to first kill monsters in the first two wings of Hellfire Citadel, Hellfire Ramparts & Blood Furnace, until you reached Honored – without doing the quests in Hellfire Peninsula. You can also repeat the PvP quest, "Hellfire Fortifications," to gain a slight amount of reputation until you are partly through Honored. After you reach the maximum rep level from these methods, then you should try to complete every quest you can in Hellfire Peninsula. Once you run out of quests, doing Shattered Halls (the level 70 wing) will be the primary method to continue to gain reputation in Honored and Revered. You will probably have to leave Hellfire Peninsula, then level up to 70 and come back and finish getting your reputation in Shattered Halls.
Likewise, World PvP is centered around three primary areas in Hellfire Peninsula: The Overlook, The Stadium, and Broken Hill. All three locations are just west of Hellfire Citadel in the center of the zone. The objective of each faction is to control as many towers as possible, as the side that controls all the locations receives a zone-wide buff of 5% increased damage. This buff applies to everyone of the controlling faction presently in both Hellfire Peninsula and the instances of Hellfire Citadel.
To capture a tower, simply one faction must have more members in the area than the other faction. Merely having one eligible member of your faction in the vicinity of the tower will begin the capture process. It will take a solo eligible player 12 minutes to capture the tower. This time will decrease for every additional eligible friendly member in the area, to a minimum of five minutes for a five man (or higher) advantage. If equal numbers of the opposite faction are present, the capturing process will freeze in place. Capture time scales according to the ratio of players on each side - for example, if there are six Alliance players and five Horde players at the fort, it will take the Alliance 12 minutes to capture it.
As you defeat players of the opposite faction, you will receive Marks of Thrallmar or Honor Hold. These marks are the currency for the Hellfire Peninsula PVP rewards (not to be confused with the Thrallmar / Honor Hold reputation rewards). You may redeem your Marks for these rewards from your quartermaster NPC in Thrallmar or Honor Hold.
In addition, any opposing players killed while fighting for the objectives will reward the player and the player's party with a PvP token for the Alliance and the Horde. Grouping is encouraged as only the party that performs the killing blow will receive a token.
